Growing Orange in Western Australia
Orange (Citrus sinensis) is Australia's most commercially important citrus. Home growers have access to a wide range of varieties from early to late season, making it possible to harvest oranges from May through to October in temperate climates.
Oranges require full sun, well-drained soil, and regular feeding. They are frost-sensitive when young. Most trees are grafted onto rootstock suited to local conditions. Grafted trees fruit within 2-4 years. Regular deep watering during fruit development reduces fruit drop.
